Born in 1958 in Pennsylvania, Keith Haring was an American artist who left a permanent mark on urban art. He moved to New York in the late '70s to study at the School of Visual Arts. There, he discovered the vibrant downtown scene and began drawing with chalk on unused black advertising panels in subway stations. These “Subway Drawings” quickly became his signature.
With bold lines, bright colors, and simple shapes, Haring created a unique visual language. Influenced by graffiti, pop culture, and activism, his art featured dancing figures, barking dogs, radiant babies, and social commentary. He was passionate about raising awareness on issues like AIDS, racism, and consumerism—often using public spaces to spread his message.
In 1986, he opened the Pop Shop, a place where everyone could access his art. He collaborated with icons like Madonna and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Though his life was tragically cut short at 31, Haring's legacy lives on through his iconic works displayed in museums and public spaces worldwide.
