Paul Cézanne, the painter of Provence and pioneer of modern art.
Passionate about art and writing, I invite you to discover Paul Cézanne, a major figure of Impressionism and a pioneer of modern art.
Born in 1839 in Aix-en-Provence, Cézanne was raised in a wealthy family. Initially studying law to satisfy his banker father, he soon abandoned this path to dedicate himself to painting. A childhood friend of Émile Zola, he was part of the Parisian art scene, yet it was in Provence that he found his deepest inspiration.

Rejected several times by the official Salon, he distanced himself from academic traditions. While influenced by Impressionism, he gradually developed a unique style focused on structure, light, and form. His work laid the foundations for Cubism and influenced artists such as Picasso and Braque.
His series of paintings of Mont Sainte-Victoire reflects his obsession with capturing the permanence of nature through solid structures. Cézanne sought to “make Impressionism something solid and lasting, like the art of museums.”
Long misunderstood, he gained recognition later in life. He died in 1906, leaving behind a visionary body of work that transformed art history.
