David Hockney:The Man Who Never Stopped Looking.

Born on 9 July 1937 in Bradford, Yorkshire, David Hockney grew up in a modest household filled with curiosity. From an early age, he drew with an intensity that never left him. At 16, he enrolled at Bradford School of Art, then went on to the Royal College of Art in London, where he quickly stood out blending wit, technical mastery, and an uncommon freedom of expression.

In the 1960s, he discovered Los Angeles and it was a revelation. The sun, the light, the shimmering blue pools, the unhurried bodies all of it became his raw material. His swimming pool paintings, including the iconic A Bigger Splash (1967), entered the canon of modern art. Hockney captured Californian life with near-photographic precision, yet always with an undertone of quiet melancholy.

A central figure of British Pop Art, he has always resisted easy classification. Portraiture, landscape, intimate interiors his work covers it all. He has long explored questions of perception and representation how do we truly see the world? through extended portrait series of friends and family, his celebrated joiners (photographic collages), and later, digital paintings made on an iPad.

Because Hockney does not grow old he reinvents himself. In the 2000s, he returned to his native Yorkshire and painted the Wolds with an explosive palette. Then came the iPad, which he embraced with the enthusiasm of someone discovering an entirely new medium. Now in his late eighties, he still paints every morning from his home in Normandy, where he settled some years ago. His body of work spans several thousand pieces. His exhibitions tour the world and regularly break attendance records.

David Hockney is far more than a celebrated painter he is a man who turned the joy of seeing into a way of life.
